Philosophy

The basic philosophy of education and training upon which our school operates is that each student has a talent, large or small, when he or she comes to us for training in the field of Cosmetology. We assume the responsibility of discovering and developing that talent in order that the student, when fully trained, might become a happy, well-adjusted person in his or her chosen profession.

In our clinical work, we encourage each student to develop some creativity with his or her patrons in order to make them happy with their appearance. Our clinical work is considered a very important learning feature in the school, providing learning experience under licensed instructors.

We strive to keep our school and clinic in a professional atmosphere so that our graduates will have pride in the profession which they have chosen.

School Background

Blackwood Beauty School was opened in the early 1970's by the Blackwood family. Although hair styles have changed drastically since then, the professionalism begun by the Blackwood's remains unchanged with the present owners, Terry and Michelle Long. The Longs purchased Blackwood Beauty School in the year 2000 and since then have maintained a 100% student pass rate.

Owner/Instructor Michelle Long has been a hairdresser for 10 years and an instructor for nearly 7 years. Instructor Janice Jansen has been a hairdresser for 30 years and an instructor for 3 years. The staff of Blackwood Beauty School attends continuing education classes regularly and also encourages students to do the same.

Blackwood Beauty School uses only top quality Redken products and is an authorized Redken School. Top-notch Redken Instructors come to the school quarterly to teach Redken Classes for students.

At Blackwood Beauty School, our objective does not stop at successful completion of the State Board examination. We are committed to helping each student find employment and becoming a success in their chosen field.

Small class size means more 1 on 1 instruction time for each student. The atmosphere at Blackwood Beauty School is professional yet fun and exciting. Time spent here is more like time spent with family than time spent in a cold classroom.
